THOMPSON SQUARE REACTS TO AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS NOMINATION FOR SPRINT “NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR”

(LOS ANGELES, CA) – Stoney Creek Records duo Thompson Square has earned its first American Music Award nomination for the Sprint “New Artist of the Year” Award. The nominations were announced at the JW Marriot Los Angeles at LA Live yesterday by Nicki Minaj and Pitbull.

Thompson Square is one of only two Country artists in the all genre category. The duo was actually en route to Nashville on Southwest Airlines as the nominations were being announced, having left Los Angeles before dawn yesterday after taping an upcoming late night appearance. The chart-topping husband/ wife duo Keifer and Shawna Thompson learned of their nomination upon landing back home in Nashville.

“Being nominated for an American Music Award is the last thing I expected when I rolled out of bed yesterday morning,” said Keifer. “The past year has been an amazing ride. We’ve had so many firsts and this is even more icing on the cake.”

“We’re so thankful to our fans and Country radio and everyone that’s been here supporting us over the course of our career,” said Shawna. “We’re so blessed to be doing what we love and don’t take any day for granted.”

One of Country music’s biggest breakout acts of 2011, Thompson Square’s infectious hit single, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” reached the coveted #1 spot on both Country radio charts and has sold 1.5 million downloads to-date. The single is also the most played song of the year on Country radio (Mediabase). “Are You Going To Kiss Me Or Not” spent 5 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Country Digital Soundscan Chart, reached #1 on the Billboard Heat Seekers Chart and was the #1 Country Ringtone for 12 weeks straight. Additionally, Thompson Square is the only duo to reach #1 on CMT’s Top 50 Artist Chart in 2011.

Thompson Square has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Conan, Fox & Friends and Fox’s Summer Concert Series, as well as been featured in Entertainment Weekly, People Country, Country Weekly, USA Today, The Washington Post and Billboard. Their current single, “I Got You,” is currently a Top 15 hit. The duo also recently earned two CMA nominations, Vocal Duo of the Year and New Artist of the Year, for the upcoming “45th Annual CMA Awards.” Thompson Square is currently on the road opening for multi-platinum country rocker Jason Aldean on his My Kinda Party 2011 Arena Tour. They will join Darius Rucker's U.S. tour later this fall. For more information visit thompsonsquare.com
